arguably the Sons Of Liberty, who were the patiot group behind, among other things the Boston Tea party and in general stood up for colonial independence! A fictional treatment of this organization- which included alleged period songs ( follow the Liberty Tree, boys, Follow the Liberty Tree!) can be found int he Disney movie Johnny Tremaine. It should be note the Liberty Bell has always been in Philadelphia ,Pa. and the Sons of Liberty were strictly a Boston outfit.
For one, the British army was the most advanced, disciplined, and well-organized army at the time. It was also supported by the British navy, the largest in the world at the time (the British had defeated the Spanish Armada, the largest naval force before them). They used this navy to lay siege to harbors all across the colonies. The British also had much better training and weaponry than the militia, which was made up of farmers for the most part. And this is the beauty of the American Revolution, that despite all the odds, the patriots had a will and a motive that carried them to victory over the largest force on the planet at the time.
