Unfortunately, a lot of remembering word meanings just has to do with practice and memorization. One thing that helps if you are learning a foreign language is to label your house. Get some note cards and find the words for the tv, the microwave, the window, the chair... all of it, and attach a card to each. Then you have constant reminders all around you. Once you become familiar with those words, you can add more. Flash Cards can help as well. If you are trying to enhance your vocabulary in your native tongue, use the new words in your daily life. Make it a game to fit the new vocabulary into a conversation at work, for instance. Make sure you look up the word often, and remind yourself how to use it correctly.
