Member of a plains american indian tribe?
A warrior named Ahpishshish (Red Wing), of the Crow tribe, was a member of the Piegan Lodge Clan and the Lumpwood (War Clubs) Warrior Society. He led successful war parties against the enemy Lakotas and also served as a US Army scout at Fort Custer. He was born in 1858.The photograph (see link below) shows him painted for war with white clay in his hair and down his cheeks. The large bone or shell disks and bone "loop" necklace are typical accessories for Crow warriors - like almost all native Americans up to around 1920 he has removed all facial hair, including his eyebrows. His shirt with four beadwork strips (over each shoulder and down each arm), plus the ermine fringes, indicate a war leader who has counted at least four coups in battle.
