It was definitely a military failure and this of cause means it was also a political failure (for the Americans).
Just the opposite, actually.
Truman
The last time the total number of Presidents and Vice Presidents was the same was near the end of the 19th century, when McKinley was President and Hobart was Vice President. Then after Vice President Hobart died McKinley needed a new running mate. When he was reelected, Theodore Roosevelt was his new Vice President, and the number of V.P.'s then exceeded the number of Presidents by one. The difference of one remained until Franklin Roosevelt was President. He changed Vice Presidents twice (he had a total of three). So at that point, when Roosevelt started his 4th term, the total of vice presidents was three more than the total of presidents. The difference of three remained until Gerald Ford was appointed to replace Vice President Agnew, who resigned in 1973. The difference then became four, where it remains to this day (43 presidents and 47 vice presidents).

Im reminded of some quites ..."Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.""Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up.""Life's real failure is when you do not realize how close you were to success when you gave up.""Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on ones ideas, to take a calculated risk - and to act.""I do not believe in failure. It is not failure if you enjoyed the process.""Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.""Through perseverance many people win success out of what seemed destined to be certain failure."Stack that against Lincoln and you'll see there were no "major failures" ...REFER TO LINK @ BOTTOM OF PAGE FOR ''LINCOLN'S FAILURES' ...
In Umuofian society, success is valued and admired as it signifies power, wealth, and respect within the community. On the other hand, failure is often stigmatized and can lead to social exclusion and loss of status. Success is seen as a positive reflection of one's character and abilities, while failure is viewed as a personal shortcoming.

It was a success. It was a very widely used programming language at one time, and there is even still some COBOL surviving in old systems.

Everyone will be there in success, no one will be in failure. That is how we can translate it.
As a group one-term presidents are not so successful which is why they were one-term presidents. Polk refused to run for a second term and he was probably the most successful one-termer. Taft would very probably have won a second term if Theodore Roosevelt had supported him instead of breaking with with his party and running as an independent against him.

The failure and success of the African Union is what defines it today. One of the successes is being able to bring together African countries in unity. The main failure is lack of proper systems that address human injustices in African countries.
