Landrace are gaining strength as a top swine breed in the USA now. They have a lot of piglets & raise a high number of them so producer's like that. They are mainly used for production of lean pigs. The most prized cuts of meat on any animal comes from the animal's loin. This lays on either side of the spine. These are normally the most expensive cuts of meat due to their natural tenderness. They are the most tender because the experience the least amount of movement when the animal is walking. They rarely use these muscles so they become tender. The Landrace breed of swine is probably the longest breeds of swine. This means that it has considerably more loin meat as stated above. This means that the animal has more of the expensive cuts of meat. This should equate to a higher priced animal that is more desirable to swine producers. So to make a long story short, the Landrace pig is used for meat production.
