The Labour party in Great Britain is a left of centre political party originally founded by trades unionists. The party first gained power fairly unsucessfully in 1924 but won a landslide election victory in 1945 and again in 1997.
I do not believe that Scotland has its own labour party, I think it is just one party for the whole of the UK.

The Labour Party started out as a left wing party-of-the-people but, since the 1990s and the advent of "New Labour", it tends to be slightly right wing.
