The El' Azar family is an old Jewish family with roots in the eastern Mediterranean The name is mentioned as far back as the Old Testament. The second book of the five books of Moses, Exodus, lists the children of Moses and Aharon. El'azar was the son of Moses' brother Aharon, from the tribe of Levi.

The El' Azar are of Mizrahi heritage, that is, Jews of the eastern Mediterranean region who are not descended from those who were expelled from Spain in the late 15th century. Some now use the surname Azar, and some, of course now live in the Americas.
