Mass punishment in the Army goes without saying much about, it is seen in many different ways. However there are certain regulations that separate the punishment of all for certain issue but mass punishment in general is somewhat accepted. You will see much of this while in Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) where in your units it is less likely but can still occur. If you look at it in this respect it might shed some light on the idea of mass punishment, while in BCT everyone must look the same (be in the same uniform), be in formation on time, have all the prescribed materials needed for training, if one soldier shows up late or out of uniform then they that individual has failed the unit, just the same their fellow soldiers allowed them to fail because they did not check behind them. We put certain people in leadership positions to ensure that everyone has what they need and by failing to do such you are just as much to blame.

Mass punishment is a violation of Army Regulation; however, Special Unit Training is not. If you are experiencing Special Unit Training as a perceived response to the interpretted misconduct or mistake of a unit member (or several), it would be unwise to try to label it "Mass Punishment." There is a long legacy of those who have focused the light of scrutiny upon themselves by questioning the history and traditions of the US Army. Take the training, help your brothers and sisters in arms learn to be more military, and embrace the ideal of esprite de corps.
