AnswerThe Deuteronomic history and the Book of Chronicles are in almost complete dispute on the events leading up to the succession by Solomon. We can surmise that the Chronicler had reason to believe that the Deuteronomic history was false, or that the Chronicler simply wanted to rewrite history, whether or not the earlier account was based on fact. The Deuteronomic history follows the Absalom narrative with another uprising in 2 Samuel chapter 20, then the remainder of 2 Samuel has a group of miscellaneous chapters out of context, clearly later insertions. These chapters include a famine, killing of giants, a psalm, the purported last words of David and then a census undertaken by David. Removing chapters 21 to 24 leaves a coherent story line, from Absalom's attempted coup to Sheba's uprising, proof of David's senility, Adonijah's attempted coup and then the anointment of Solomon as king. Within the well constructed sequence, the literary purpose of Absalom's attempt was to remove the two most likely successors to the kingdom. The sickbed sequence provided a sense of urgency in appointing a successor, then Adonijah's attempted coup gave David a reason and context to move quickly and anoint Solomon over his other more senior brothers. The Book of Chronicles omits the lengthy diversion about Absalom, the attempted coups and the Sheba uprising. More particularly, while still in apparent good health and not yet bed-ridden, David announced to the people of Israel that Yahweh had chosen Solomon to be his heir.
Benedict Arnold was the second oldest child out of five siblings: Benedict (who died in infancy); Hannah; Mary (who died of diphtheria); Absalom (who died of a mysterious illness); and Elizabeth (who also died of diphtheria). Hannah was Benedict Arnold's only surviving sibling.
He broke ALL of them:He committed adultery with Bathsheba and sent her husband (I think Uriah) to the front lines in his army to get him killed. The Bible Will Keep Us from Sin, or Sin Will Keep Us from the Bible. Psalm 119:11 states, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." King David said he had memorized God's Word, i.e., hid the Bible in his heart, to help him gain victory over sin in his personal life. Hebrews 4:12 reads, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." What a powerful Book! No Christian magazine, book, or daily devotional can compare to the power of God's Word! No wonder David said in Psalm 1:1-2, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." David had learned a painful lesson from the horrible sins he had committed (adultery and murder). David's entire family turned against him. David's kingdom fell into ruin. Absalom was killed. Bathsheba's child died. David's name became mud. As an old man, broken and tired, he writes the Psalms. David now realizes that it is God whom he has sinned against, because he had broken all of the Ten Commandments. God's Law will keep us from sin, if we fear God enough to obey Him. http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/Believer%27s%20Corner/victory.htm
