It turns out that the story is that the person who designed the logo intended for it to represent "Greatness."Somewhat countering this notion is the fact that at one time the team occasionally used an alternative logo consisting of the letters G and B superimposed; both were somewhat "stretched"... the G horizontally, just like it is in the current official logo, and the B vertically.
