The First Battle of Bull Run showed all who were present the unpredictability of war. For the North it showed that the South wasn't going to turn and run so easily as some had believed before the battle. For the South it boosted the confidence that the Confederate soldiers could stand up against the Union army and win. Afterward it was realized that it wasn't likely to be a "90 days war" as some had earlier thought.
