Margherita Luti is the name of the mistress of Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, March 28, 1483? - April 6, 1520). Posterity remembers Margherita under the nickname la fornarina ("the little baker"), as the baker of Siena-born baker Francesco Luti. Her Italian architect and painter lover was said never to have married because of love for Margherita, who was present at his deathbed and retired to the Convent of Santa Apollonia four months after his death.
