There is evidence explaining names like Guerrero, meaning warrior, as being taken by career soldiers for governmental reasons. For Example, when a king needed his taxes, he would ask for a name to mark down his paid/not paid; similar to our IRS today. Thus, a career soldier with a first name of "Sam" might have put down Sam Guerrero for this purpose. Then over the generations it stuck, creating many Guerreros from all over the world today.
