the fact that the people and town just disappeared and no one found it after that so it gave them the idea of the natives finding them and possibly being a threat of taking more lives and land, however there was nothing left no signs that they were taken however there was a wooden fence around the perimeter and something carved into the bark of a tree just outside of the long lost Roanoke. there were no ashes showing it being burnt and no other evidence its a mystery to them all.
