the 1st type of farmers is farmers that rented land and paid their rent with crops. the other type of farmer are farmers that worked for wealthy nobles. this a fact that i learned
The people who paid rent to a landowner to raise crops and lived on the landowner's land were typically tenant farmers or sharecroppers. These individuals often entered into agreements that required them to pay a portion of their harvest or a fixed rent to the landowner. This system could lead to exploitation, as many tenant farmers faced high rents, poor living conditions, and limited economic opportunities, making it difficult to achieve financial independence. Such arrangements were prevalent in various historical contexts, including feudal systems and the post-Civil War Southern United States.
In the medieval society the peasant was a man who worked/farmed for his rent. He gave his labor to the lord of the manor for a place to live and a small patch of land to grow a few things. When there was a war his farm tools became weapons and he fought as a foot soldier to defend his manor/king.

A person in the Middle Ages who had to rent a house did so for pretty much the same reasons people rent houses today, because they cannot afford to buy. But most people did not rent houses. Serfs, who worked the land on manorial estates, worked in exchange for the place where they lived. They did not usually pay rent. Certain types of peasants who were not serfs rented the places where they lived and worked, instead of working. These people were called freemen. If a farmer had the ability to buy land, he could do so. A land owning farmer was a yeoman. Most people who lived in town rented. People of the laboring classes, however, usually rented rooms or small apartments rather than houses. Merchants, who could afford better housing, rented or owned their own homes.
