It is worth about 20 bucks, and that's being kind, it's true value is between 12-25 depending on the subtleties of condition. If you are talking about the dutch penny, made of copper, which may or may not be packaged in some kind of thick plastic holder or any other of a number of varied novelties. The truth is, for some reason, though the coin is authentic, and very old, they are not in short supply by any means. If you happen to have on that's in any grade above G-8, esp, VF or better, then the price does go up considerably; an AU-55 or higher should go for about 25 hundred, but if you are talking one of the many novelty packaged pennies in poor to G-8, it'll bring you about 20 bucks.

If you spent over 30 bucks+shipping, you were scammed, but if you spent between 15.95-24.95+shipping it's not a bad purchase b/c the coin is so old, and if you are a semi-serious collector of moderately low wealth such as I who focus on silver coins pre 1965 and/or Silver Bullion, along with late 1800's-early 1900's pennies and nickels, it's cool to have such an old coin in your collection&as most feel the same, you'll always be able to get 20 bucks for it if you try hard enough. I do expect it will appreciate slightly in value, as in basically a dollar per year for the next 10 starting in 2012 when they glut has been sold.

However if you found this in a dead relative's house, a storage unit you bought via auction, or so on, you won't be retiring to Sedona, Seattle or Miami b/c of this coin.
