There were many jobs for peasants in medieval farming. Over the course of the year the fields had to harrowed and plowed, the seeds sown, the crops weeded, and finally harvested. Some grain crops were planted in the late fall to germinate and then lie dormant through the winter, some grains were planted in early spring. Later in spring legume crops and garden vegetables were planted. Flax or hemp would have been grown as a fiber crop, planted in spring and harvested in summer. There would have been hay meadows that would need mowing for haymaking during the spring and summer.
Animals would have needed care as well. The medieval farmer would have had to breed the animals at the appropriate time, and in early spring lambing and calving would take place. Sheep would be sheered in early summer. In fall excess stock would be taken to market or slaughtered for personal use. Hog slaughter happened later, perhaps as late as November or December.
There were many other general jobs that needed doing in medieval farm villages. During the winter fallow fields were spread with manure to fertilize them. Fences and ditches had to be maintained. Fruit trees and hedges needed to be pruned. Bee hives needed care and honey was gathered. Wood would be gathered and cut. Gathered foods such as nuts and berries were collected. Tools were made and repaired, and homes and other buildings needed maintenance from time to time.

For the most part, medieval peasants worked on manors at agricultural jobs. They did labor or gave the lord a part of their crop, or paid rent in money. In exchange, the lord gave them a place to live, fields to farm, and protection against such things as wars and robbers. He also was considered to be obliged to feed them in a famine.
