The Sauki-Ok (Sac and Fox) people used two types of dwelling: bark-covered dome-shaped wigwams in summer and larger cabin-style lodges in winter.

These were usually arranged in small village communities, but the tribe also had an enormous "town" called Saukenuk between the Rock River and Mississippi River in Illinois - before 1804 around 4,000 people lived there together (one of the largest known communities in native North America).
