Choctaw cabins (chukka) had frameworks of wooden poles with walls of wattle and daub, woven vines or river cane, sometimes plastered over with mud and straw to waterproof them, and roofs of thatch. Many villages were protected by a wooden palisade.

Cabins were round and had no windows, just a single door.

When away from the village on hunting or trading trips temporary shelters were constructed of driftwood and any fallen timber that was available.

What type of dwelling did the native american's live in?

The Native American housing styles depended on their culture. The Native Americans were not one big national group. They were varied "tribes" or "nations" and their cultures differed. For example the people of the eastern seaboard were vastly different from the people of the plains or of the people of the southwest. Their housing reflected this difference. Some lived in longhouses, some in tepees (the first American mobile homes) and some in more permanent dwellings such as the hogan of the Navajo.
