The nastiest weapon used in the Viet War and by far the most feared weapon by the communist forces was the B52.

The enemy could run or take cover from any weapon in the US arsenal; but not the B52. Arc Light missions were almost always conducted as a surprise to the enemy...there were hardly ever any previous warnings of an Arc Light mission; then when they came, they hit with monumental devastation.

What nasty weapon was used widely during the Vietnam war as a fireball dropped from planes?

Just like with the "young generation" of today, the "young generation" of yesterday "got off" on all that "flame". Hollywood loves that stuff! It sells! In Hollywood movies one hand grenade goes up like an atom bomb, destroys more stuff than a B52 bomber! In truth "Naplam" was simply jellied gasoline. It burned initially, then burned itself out. Caused NOWHERE near the destruction of a general purpose H-E bomb (250lb, 500lb, 750lb, and 1,000lb). But the press certainly loved it! Just like today.

When was Vietnam war at its worst?

Worse for whom? 1. Operation Linebacker in 1972 was the worst for North Vietnam. 2. The Tet Offensive in 1968 was the first for South Vietnam. 3. The Ia Drang fight in 1965 was the worst for the 1st Air Cavalry Division. 4. The Dak To fight in 1966/67 was the worst for the 173rd Airborne Brigade. 5. The US Marines found little joy at Khe Sanh in 1968. 6. The US Marines found little comfort at Hue in 1968. 7. B52 crewmen nearly went into shock during the Linebacker raids in '72. There was talk of refusals to fly some of those missions. 8. US helicopter airmen began to refuse to fly missions during Operation Lam Son 719 in 1971; more choppers were shot down during that campaign than during any other during the whole war. 9. The 101st Airborne Division (Ambl) had a nasty year in '69 at Hamburger Hill.

South Vietnam; although there were incidents along the NORTH Vietnamese coastline at, around, near, and above the 17th parallel (DMZ) involving US "Nasty Boats"; and in the Gulf of Tonkin. Nasty boats were built in northern Europe for the US, and looked very much like the wooden WW2 PT boats. These were pre-Swift Boat & PBR & Brown Water Navy days (Before 1965).
