What serves as the dividing line between north and South Korea?

I am Korean and the line between North Korea and South Korea is called "38 line" in Korea two soldiers from each side stand next to the line they can caught the people who are escaping from their country. (that's what i heard from my mom) In the US it is referred to as the Thirty-Eighth Parallel. The one-mile strip on either side of it is called the Demilitarized Zone or the DMZ. US Military personnel simply refer to it as The Z.

The line was made on the 38th parallel dividing the two Koreas. The North became Socialist or Communist while the South became a republic and democratic country. The line is NOT a border! It's the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). No is allowed to cross it or the other side. It is 250 km long and 4km wide

The dividing line between North Korea and South Korea is a bit north of Sokcho, a beach town in South Korea (about 4-5 hours drive from Yoido, an island in Seoul) In Sokcho, you can see soldiers and military camps. Past the mountains is North Korea. If you ever go to South Korea and want to see North Korea, you can look through a telescope from a tower. But don't bring any medicines or dangerous items: You can be thrown into a North Korean prison for that.
