She was a woman who pretended to be a man and fight in the war. She was very tall so she passed for a man. When she got shot in the leg and received a head wound during battle, she was taken to a doctor after begging to be left behind. She only let her doctor treat the head wound then left. She took out one of the musket bullets (the other one was to deep for her to reach) and sewed up the wound her self. He secret wasn't discovered until 1783, when she came down with a fever and was taken to the same doctor. When he found out, he kept it a secret and took her to his wife and daughter to be treated further. Later, the doctor asked Deborah to take a note to George Washington. Deborah was honorably discharged from he army and received a pension of four dollars a month until her death at age sixty-six.
