Alfred fought on and the peace of Wedmore (878) it was agreed the Danes would settle in the east of England; This is known as Danelaw. These areas included East Anglia, East Midlands, Lincolnshire and east Yorkshire. Then the Danish where virtually non-existent in England after Edward "The Elder" pushed the Danish as far back as the Humber, modern day Hull. However, in 1013, an army led by King Svien of Denmark invaded the North of England and settled. From 1016 - 1035 in Canute's reign, the Danes secured the whole of England.
