The role that race and racism took in the Civil War is that during the time of the Civil War black were still slaves. The north was against slavery because they had factories to replace the hard labors of farm workers. The South wasn't as wealthy and so they used slaves in place of factories. The most important role racism and race took was that since the North was against the slavery they decided that the black slaves can travel down to there land and instead of living there, fight for their right for freedom. The black slaves fought against the south in place of most white men for freedom and because the white men didn't want use waste themselves. That is how race and racism took it's role in the Civil War.
