Tsarevich Alexei had hemophelia.
ANASTASIA: Youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and EmpressAlexandra of Russia. Thought to haveescaped execution in July, 1918. Appeared inAmerica in mid 1920's. Approximately 24 years old.
Alexei was Czar Nicholas' youngest child and only son. Unfortunately for the succession of the throne, Alexei was a hemophilliac, meaning his blood barely clotted. A paper cut that's just annoying for the average person could have put Alexei in a hospital ICU. His illness is what brought Grigorii Rasputin, who claimed he was a healer, into the royal court. Alexei was assasinated along with his family in the 1920s after the civil war.
Nicholas II was the last Czar. There had been a Nicholas I before him. Your question did not specify which Nicholas was being referred to. There is some theory that either Michael Romanov, Nicholas II's brother, or Alexei Romanov, Nicholas II's son, was the actual last Czar but this is non-sense. The theory that Michael was the last Czar is based on the fact that when Nicholas II abdicated the throne, he passed it on to his brother Michael who refused it, was never crowned and never acted as Czar. The then existing Russian Constitution stated that the Czar could not give the crown to anyone he chose, but that it had to go to his eldest son first. The abdication in Michael's favor was therefore illegal and of no effect. Since he was never the Czar he couldn't have been the last one. The theory that Alexei was the last Czar is also based on the fact that the abdication in favor of Michael was illegal. Since the Constitution stated that the crown fell to the Czar's eldest son, the speculation is that when Nicholas II abdicated, the crown automatically fell to Alexei regardless of the abdication in favor of Michael. The problem with this theory is that Alexei was never crowned Czar and never acted as Czar. Again, since he was never the Czar, he could not have been the last one either.
Grigori Rasputin is often credited with helping to alleviate the hemophilia symptoms of Tsarevich Alexei, the son of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. While he did not cure the condition, Rasputin's presence and his unconventional methods seemed to provide some relief during crises, leading to periods of improvement. This led the royal family to believe he had a unique ability to heal Alexei, which contributed to his influential role in their lives. However, his influence was controversial and contributed to the growing discontent with the monarchy.
Nicholas had an unsteady relationship with Rasputin, and was never as committed to him as his wife, Alexandra. There were times where the Tsar and Rasputin had disagreements, and on a few occasions, Rasputin was banished from the royal family. However, through Alexandra's persuasion, Nicholas managed to put up with Rasputin, especially as he was supposedly helping his son, Alexei, to survive through his suffering of Haemophilia.

The last Tsar of Russia was Nicholas Romanov II. There are some who claim that Nicholas II was not the last Tsar but that either his brother Michael was or his son Alexei was. These are non-sense. Nicholas II abdicated the throne in March 1917 in favor of his brother Michael, however according to Russian law, the title of Tsar was not Nicholas's to give to any person he desired. It had to go to the Tsar's eldest male child, Alexei. In any event, Michael refused to accept the title and was never crowned Tsar, so he was not the last Tsar. The title was by law supposed to go to Alexei, but the abdication itself was questionable. Alexei was likewise never crowned or acted as Tsar. The last Tsar was without a doubt Nicholas II.

Tsarevich Alexei, the son of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, had hemophilia, a genetic disorder that impairs the blood's ability to clot. This condition made him particularly vulnerable to severe bleeding from injuries or surgeries, which posed significant challenges for his family and contributed to the family's struggles during the political turmoil of the time. Alexei's hemophilia was inherited through his mother, Empress Alexandra, who was a carrier of the gene.
Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra's long awaited heir was born July 1, 1904. They called him Alexei Nicholeivitch for Nicholas' favorite Tsar: Alexis the mild. The Tsarevitch, Alexei, was born with the "royal disease" hemophilia, passed on to him from his mother, the Empress.
