Astronomically, it would be 2000 to year 0 and then 1 equals 2001 years. The Roman calendar we use today had an omission in it - not counting the year zero but rather, starting with the first year. It went from 1 BC to 1 AD missing a full year. By this measure there would be 2000 years only.

BCE means 'before the common era', and is an attempt to refer to the commonly accepted numbering of years but without the religious implication. CE means 'common era'. So AD (Anno Domini, or year of our Lord) and CE (common era) refer to exactly the same range of years. BC (Before Christ) and BCE (before common era) do the same thing. The 'c' before 2000 may refer to 'circa', meaning roughly, about, or around. So the reference could be to the time period between C.2000 and 1100 BCE. The larger number refers to the earlier year BCE.

Greek civilization is divided into eight periods. First, the Neolithic period lasted from 6000- 2900 BCE. It was followed by the Early Bronze Age which lasted from 2900- 2000 BCE. Then came the Minoan age from 2000- 1400 BCE. Then in 600 BCE, the Mycenaean Age began and it lasted until 1100 BCE, when the Dark Ages started. The Dark Ages ended in 750 BCE with the beginning of the Archaic Period. The Archaic Period was followed by the Classical Period, which began in 500 BCE. And lastly, the Hellenistic period which began in 336 BCE and ended in 146 BC with the dawning of the Roman Empire.
