In 1955 the AFL and CIO settled their differences and merged into one extremely large labor organization. All the major national unions in the United States today except the National Education Association are affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

Years ago they were competing 'umbrella' labor organizations. They both iepresented the interests of the separate labor unions which made up their particular membership. Several decades ago they merged and there is no longer any differences between them as they are now the same organization.

National Union of Autonomous Unions was created in 1993.
National Trade Unions' Federation was created in 1972.
