The conflict seen in the Jungle by Upton Sinclair is Individual vs. the Universe, or individual vs. nature.
Internecene conflict or struggle might be one answer. Usually pronounced inter-nice-seen.
Christians were not following the official state cult (The Gods Jupiter, Mars, Venus and such) and was seen as endangering the safety of the Empire. The emperors feared the wrath of the gods as more people abandoned them. It was seen as a direct challenge to the power of the emperor and the state
The Scientific Revolution was a conflict between authority and evidence. Authority came in the form of the Church, which did not want to accept new scientific ideas. Evidence came in the form of experiments and observations that scientists were coming up with that were proven true repeatedly.
The purpose of the conflict was for the miners to take a stand against the unfair licences imposed upon them, and the random licence checks. Miners who could not produce a current licence - which had to be renewed monthly - were subject to severe penalties. The miners built the Eureka Stockade from which they could conduct their protest. Unfortunately, it was seen as sedition, and soldiers were brought in, which resulted in a conflict that killed 23 diggers.
The Revolutionary War is where they made there mark and earned their nickname. Men from Tennessee have seen voluntary service and paid the price in every US conflict.

Tigers are usually jungle hunters, and the tiger stripes mimic the dappled sunlight seen in jungles.
