Vespucci did NOT sail with Columbus. The only reason that America is named after him is that a German map maker read Vespucci's account that he landed on North America. Columbus never did.

Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain to discover America. In 1492, he set sail on an expedition funded by King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile. Columbus was searching for a new route to Asia but instead landed in the Caribbean, believing he had reached the East Indies.
That he wanted to find a route to India and sailed for 33 days. He found an island instead.

Amerigo Vespucci was looking for the land Columbus had sailed to (that everyone thought was China). When Amerigo got there he realized it didn't match the descriptions in Marco Polo's book. The land soon got named America after Amerigo.
