The Luftwaffe. although that terminology is generic and has no application to the Nazi Era. In WWII it was commanded by Field Marsjall Herman Goering who is much maligned in modern historical as Fat Herman, an oaf, and pompous, even ludicrous in his choice of uniform selection. Goering was, like the Desert Fox, his former leader, the Red Baron, a respected combat leader, an Ace in WWI, and the holder of the Blue Max, Germany's highest award for bravery.

{The Desert Fox was General Rommel. Not sure of the connection there.}

The term Luftwaffe should not be confused with the name of the modern German commericial airline: Lufthansa.

hitler's air force was called by the names lufftwaffe, bundeshwehr and wehrmact.
