He served as a page in the court of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, gaining experience in military campaigns against the Moors in Granada. Ponce de León later joined Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the New World, where he became involved in the colonization of Hispaniola before embarking on his own explorations, including the search for the fabled Fountain of Youth in Florida.
