in the early 1300s, a Turk named Osman 1 started the Ottoman dynasty in northern Anatolia.
Suleiman the Magnificent was the Ottoman leader who was expert in many areas. He conquered eastern Europe. His influence is still felt today.
Suleiman's two wives had borne him eight sons. His selection led to war among the brothers.
Suleiman the Magnificent's rule (1520-1566) marked the height of the Ottoman Empire's territorial expansion, cultural flourishing, and legal reform, distinguishing it from the reigns of his predecessors Mehmet II and Selim I. While Mehmet II is known for conquering Constantinople and solidifying Ottoman power, and Selim I expanded the empire significantly into the Middle East, Suleiman focused on consolidating and modernizing the empire's governance, implementing a comprehensive legal code and promoting arts and architecture. His reign is often seen as a golden age, characterized by a blend of military prowess and cultural achievements, setting it apart from the more conquest-driven focuses of Mehmet and Selim.
It created a huge expansion in the empire. My book reads" Selim the Grim, came to power in 1512. He was an effective sultan and a great general...At the same time that Cortez was toppling the Aztec Empire in the America's, Selim's Empire took responsibility for Mecca and Medina. Finally, he took Cairo, the intellectual center of the Muslim world. The once- great civilizationof Egypt had become just another province in the growing Ottoman Empire.
