What was different between plebeians and patricians?

Patricians= Powerful land owners who controlled Roman government and society.

Plebians= Farmers and workers who made up most of the Roman population. These were the differences between the two groups at the beginning of the city. Over the years the Plebs gained status and voting rights and wealth. When Rome began to expand many people drifted into the city to live and work and they were neither patricians nor plebians. They were the proletariat, who made up the majority of the city of Rome's population. So by the mid-to late republic, the patricians and the plebians were the "status" citizens because they could trace their ancestry back to the founding of the city and society-wise there was very little difference between them.

The patricians were the aristocracy. The plebeians were all non-patricians; that is, the commoners, both rich and poor. At the beginning of the Roman Republic the patricians monopolised political power. The rich plebeian fought for power-sharing and succeeded after a 200-year-old struggle (the Conflict of the Orders). They gained access to the offices of state, the senate and some of the priesthoods which all had been patrician preserves. They were co-opted into a patrician-plebeian oligarchy. They were given equestrian (cavalryman) status. The equestrian order was the lower tier of the aristocracy. The higher tier was the patriciate. Thus, the rich plebeians became part of the nobility and the term plebeian with regard to them become redundant.

The situation of the poor was different. The poor just remained the poor.
