If the question refers to the greatest number of aircraft committed, it would probably be against the USSR (Operation Barbarossa) in 1941. And if it asks about the greatest airborne invasion by paratroopers and gliders, it would definitely be the Greek island of Crete (Operation Mercury), also in 1941. Note that these assaults took place early in the war. By 1942 Hitler's days of assaulting people by air were largely concluded, and the mission of the German Air Force became ever more defensive as the war continued.
