Hard. First the crusaders had to survive the journey to the Holy Land--some by boat. If you were on a boat you could die of thirst, hunger, sickness, drowning. Even whole ships were taken by storms. Then they had to march across the searing desert in full armour with not much food or water. Some died of heat, some died of thirst, some died of hunger and some died of diseases. Then they came to enemy cities where they had to besiege for YEARS. Some then died in battle, died of hunger, died of sickness and died of thirst. Then while moving on to the next city they would be harassed by enemies, pandemics would break out amongst the fighters and basically more death.

Lots of bloodshed. Crusaders not only killed Muslims but Jews and Orthodox Christians.
