they were not like what you see in "Gone with the Wind" they were almost like slaves in their own house! their husband would treat them however they wanted, they were not the girls in the big party dresses with balls and teaparties they had their duties and were expected to do them right. if you really want to look at the subject you should look at a book called "the plantation mistress" its not exicting but extremely informative!
