What was life like in 1986?

1986 was the year that the Challenger blew up as it was rocketing toward the moon with a school teacher on board. My memories were focused on that event, graduation and starting college. At the time we were still waiting for issues between the US and Russia though we were beginning to feel that the Russian government was willing to work with President Reagan which was a significant.

I rode my bike or drove the truck into the mountains when possible, drank water from the garden hose, knew that my folks checked with my friend's parents if they needed me, and it was not uncommon for the hunters to come to school with rifles in their trucks during hunting season. School shootings, bottled water, and cellphones were not needed let alone thought of by us.
