well it was good for the planters for a while as the were getting profits, the had power over the slaves and they had an adequate labour force. The slaves, however had it rough they were beaten treated inhumanely etc. but after emancipation for a short while both the whites and slaves were miserable because the ex slaves did not want to work on the plantations anymore but in some cases this was the only option and the had to work 4 little pay and also the plnters lost their market due to the sugar duties act and so lost their labour force.
