The German miracle refers to the German economic revival after the second world war (der deutsche Wirtschaftswunder). There are many causes, although the dynamism of the so-called Mittelstand (small to medium sized companies with an entrepreneurial bias) is often cited. Other factors include engineering excellence, quality control and (generally) good industrial relations, with a bias towards consensual decision-making.
