Most people began to be trained for work at around 7-8 years old. People were babies and then they were grown. Most people were dead by 40 so life was short. There wasn't a "teen" invented yet ( not until the 1940's). A knight began his training at 7-8 and became a full knight at 21. Many wealthy girl's parents signed marriage contracts by the time the girl was 8. Mary Queen of Scots was 4 when she was promised in marriage and was living with her future in laws by the time she was 8. Peasant children began work as soon as they could. They helped their parents with work in the fields or were trained to work on the estate where they lived. Some children would apprentice to learn a trade at 7 and the contract was for 7 years so that means by the time they were 14 they knew a trade like blacksmithing.
