The primary result of this war, concerned one battle in particular. The Battle of Tsushima on 27 May 1905. This sea battle proved that uniform large guns were more effective than the contemporary mixed batteries at the time; and that speed was a primary component during engagements between modern steel battleship fleets.

Within 4 months after the Tsushima fight, Whitehall gave the go-ahead to lay the keel of HMS Dreadnaught in October 1905. Upon her launching in 1906, Dreadnaught would create a new naval arm's race which would ultimately lead to World War One.
