Churchill's plan was to use warships to attack turkey in order to weakon Germany (Germany's new ally). their plan was also to move their battleships through the waters of Dardanelles, to attack turkeys capital - Constantinople.

Churchill wanted to take the British navy through the Dardanelles so he could capture Constantinople, giving him control over the Dardanelle Straits so he could ferry supplies to Russia when the ports froze in winter. However, the Turks knew they would be coming so they set up mines in the Strait and blew up the navy. Also, since the Dardanelle Straits were so narrow, the Turks could just sit on the beach and shoot the ships!

Since the first plan failed, Winston Churchill decided to attack by land. The ANZACs were training in Egypt to go to Passchendaele, so they were simply moved over to Gallipoli. Unfortunately, they landed on the wrong beach because they had bad navigators and inaccurate maps. Then they didnt advance soon enough, so the Turks got all the high land. The rest is history!
