the religious groups played a major rolein instigating the vietnamese against the policies of the French . one such religious movement was the scholar's revolt in 1886 . The vietnamese religious beliefs were a mix of confucianism Buddism and local practices . But with the coming of French , Christianity was introduced and over 3,00,000vietnamese people were converted into Christianity . The scholars revolt protested against this and thousands of Catholics were killed . the movement inspired several other movements aganist the French .

we got our asses kicked by the vietnamese and we left the war feeling like pussies
U.S involvement in the Vietnam War was called a quagmire because the Vietnam War became worse for the U.S as they went further into the war. The U.S and its ally South Vietnam were unable to defeat North Vietnam and its Vietcong allies. The U.S was unable to effectively remove troops from Vietnam without feeling like they lost the fight against containment of Communism. Public opinion shifted from support of the war to antiwar sentiment.
A feeling of guilt because they were either a coward, refused the draft with a waiver to go to college, religion (conscientious objector, refusing to carry a firearm). Unable to pass the physical: medical, underweight, under height. That is OK. I served two tours (24 months) in Vietnam and 24 months in Iraq. I would do it again.
Nixon had been elected on a promise to Vietnamize the war, meaning more fighting would be turned over to the South Vietnamese army, and to start bringing home American troops. When the President ordered US troops into Cambodia and ordered more bombings, the result was a tremendous uproar at home with more marches and demonstrations. Congress reacted to the antiwar feeling and repealed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which gave the President the authority to send troops and fight the war in Vietnam. The United States did not lose the Vietnam War. Although some may argue that by pulling out of South Vietnam we did just that. In 1972, North Vietnam finally realized that the war was a stalemate. The two sides met and arranged a cease fire. In January of 1973 the Paris Accords went into effect. The US agreed to withdraw all its troops from Vietnam in 60 days. Congress had stopped funding the war effort. The North Vietnamese government agreed to release all prisoners, which they never did. Free elections were to be held in Vietnam. The President of South Vietnam considered the agreement between North Vietnam and the US as a sell out. But it allowed President Nixon to save face and bring the soldiers home. By 1975, after US troops had been pulled out of South Vietnam, the ARVN (Army of the Republic of South Vietnam) collapsed and the North Vietnamese moved into Saigon, ending the war and finalizing the take over of the South by the North. Our purpose in the war is debated to this day.

The renewed religious feeling of the Middle Ages resulted in the growth of monks and monasteries and the increased power of the Catholic church in the political arena.
Religion and spirituality are closely linked to the emotions. It is possible that the effect on individuals could be to release suppressed feeling or allow new ones to develop. Does it specifically make you feel religious (or non-religious)? No.
