He had to face the Cuban missile crisis, which stemmed from the cold war. The soviets didn't like the united states at all. Whatever we did, they counteracted that with something else. They were happy to supply anyone who opposed us (the united states) with nuclear weapons. The Cubans now hated us. The united states had tried to overthrow their government during the "Bay of Pigs" invasion. That invasion horribly failed, and they captured more than 1,200 of the 1,500 men sent there by the U.S. The united states had tried to overthrow the government because we didn't agree with it. So, when Cuba found out we were attacking them, they asked the soviets to supply them with defensive nuclear weapons. The soviets said "Hey, We'll give you offensive weapons too!". The soviets began importing nuclear missiles, scientists, and many other supplies into cuba. Since Cuba is only 90 miles away from Florida, Kennedy had reason to worry. Spy planes then captured photos of some missiles aimed at the U.S. There were various missiles, but most were on the west side of cuba, which is the closest side to the U.S. Kennedy was freaking out, no one knew what to do, and we were worried about the Cubans possibly blowing us to bits. So we decided to blockade cuba, which is when we do not allow any ships in or out of cuba. We did this by circling cuba from all sides. Cuba was like, "Stop blockading us! you have no right!" then we were like" You're going to blow us to bits!". So after a few tense days, the Cubans decided that if we would end the blockade, they would give us 1,200 of the men left from the Bay of Pigs invasion. We asked that they also send all the missiles back to the soviets. Everyone complied and the Cuban Missile Crisis was over. It was a long, stressful, dangerous 12 days!!
