Samuel de Champlains main hardships included time consuming trips between the new world and his home and source of his patronage in France; he also had to deal with the changing of the people of influence as the government of France changed. He appears to have been an intelligent and accomplished individual who took hardships in stride, including four years imprisoned by the British when they took control of Quebec in 1629. He accomplished a lot in his lifetime of exploring, setting up settlements, making maps, and bringing the information of the new world to the French with his writing.
