In WW1 the soldiers who fought on the Western Front had the hardest job. Their conditions were muddy, usually up to their knees and bombs were continuall going of around them. The trenches the men lived in were wet, dirty and contained the many bodies that had yet to be buried. Sometimes the soldiers would play games of who could kill the most rats, as there were plagues of them throught the trenches eating at the dead bodies. These men would get a few days rest every two weeks were they would go off line to relax and gain strength.
