the british west indian planters feced a labour shortage problem since there was a major movement of ex-slaves away form the plantatipons.These freed people moved away for various reasons such as wanting to start anew and wanting to cut ties with the planter and tha plantation.They also faced They had problems acquiring loans with which they would finance thair plantations.Without these finances which were previously acquired from banks (which were now bankrupt), planters had to suffer outdated machinery , which slowed production.After approximately 200yrs. of cane cropping,the soil became exhausted,esp. in high density colonies.
