Depends, the Germans have had 3 'reichs' or Empires. The Germans in both cases, fought for military power. In essence, World war I was the cause for World War II. The first world war was Germany and its allies facing off against the other world powers for control and military prowess, also 'Jingoism' or extreme rallying for your country was a large affect to this. World war II was caused after Hitler took power as the lead of the Nazi party, completely putting Germany on military lock-down and over-shadowing the German president, essentially eliminating all competition. In this case, Hitler promised his people deliverance and an uprising for German pride that was absent after the miserable defeat of World War I.
