Not so much corrupt. Luther took out a few books in the bible that referenced purgatory because he didn't agree with it. Also, Catholicism only believes that the Eucharist (mass, when Jesus said "take this bread and eat of it, for it is my body, which will be given up for you") is real, while all protestant religions believe it was only a symbol.
