How did automobile change the lives of Americans?

he automobile effected the lives of Americans in the four major ways: 1- Greater mobility: People could live farther away from their jobs and families. This opened up a world of opportunities for Americans who lived close to their childhood homes or jobs because they knew they would have a difficult time traveling back and forth. 2-Creation of Jobs: New jobs included jobs at gas stations, hotels, restaurants, etc. Jobs that previously did not exist because there was no need for them. 3-Growth of Industries: The steel, oil and rubber industries are just a few that will grow because they are needed to provide for the automobiles. 4-Growth of the Suburbs: With greater mobility comes the opportunity to live farther from your job because you can commute. So people are going to move out of the urban areas and suburbs are going to form around American cities. The greatest effect of the automobile was on the economy (which in turn effect people's lives). It greatly contributed to the prosperity of the 1920s for all the reasons above. Since the prosperity and lack of responsibility of the twenties caused the Great Depression, then the automobile also contributed to the Great Depression.
